Ericsson 4 / L4 Trifork
Ericsson 4, now named L4 and owned by software company Trifork, was part of a two-boat campaign for the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09 where she also claimed the overall victory. Her skipper was Brazilian multi-Olympic medallist and The Ocean Race Legend Torben Grael.
After the race, she was bought by the Groupama sailing team and used as a training boat ahead of the next Volvo Ocean Race in 2011-12, which the French team won on their new boat, Groupama 4. In 2014 Trifork acquired Ericsson 4 and renamed the yacht L4. Refitted and meticulously maintained under the management of skipper Jens Dolmer – a three-time participant in The Ocean Race – the yacht remains a potent force on the offshore racing circuit.
Latest records that Trifork L4 has broken:
- Round Mallorca
- Round Zealand off-shore
- Skagen (Denmark) to Færden (Norway)
L4 entered the Legends Race 2017-18. It was the first time that legendary yachts from the 45-year history of the world's leading ocean race gathered to compete in an offshore race. The yachts raced the final leg of the Volvo Ocean Race from Gothenburg to The Hague. The fastest yacht to reach The Hague was Ericsson 4, who finished first of three VO70s, also claiming the overall victory. Torben Grael received the Sir Peter Blake throphy on behalf of the Ericsson 4 Legends crew. The trophy was handed over by Sir Peter Blakes son James Blake.
Before the start Jørn Larsen, founder of Trifork said, "Ericsson 4, now L4, represents perfection and we have taken good care of the old lady. This year, we received a gift from Juan Kouyoumdjian in the form of a refit. It has been a pleasure to work with Juan and the original boatbuilders, to make L4 even better. At Trifork, we seek to improve the world with the latest technology and the L4 refit is a visual way of showing our mission.”
